Stud spacing is one of the few places in construction estimating where the math is actually exact: a 20-foot wall at 16 inches on-center needs ceil(20 × 12 ÷ 16) + 1, which comes out to 16 studs, full stop, no range, no convention, just arithmetic. Everything layered on top of that number (corner framing, T-intersections, king and jack studs at openings) is a trade convention rather than a formula anyone can point to a standard for, so this calculator keeps the two apart instead of folding them into one blended total.
